Board of Prefects

The Board of Prefects at JPIC is a distinguished body of student leaders who embody the school's values — serving their peers, upholding standards and building a community of excellence.

Student Leadership

Serving with Purpose & Pride

The Board of Prefects is one of the most prestigious student bodies at St. John Paul II International College. Comprising elected and appointed student leaders from across the school, the Board plays a vital role in bridging the student community and the school administration — advocating for peers, organising events and setting the standard for conduct and character.

Prefects at JPIC are selected not only for their academic achievement but for their integrity, resilience and genuine commitment to the wellbeing of others. They are trusted with real responsibility, trained for leadership and expected to demonstrate the values of the school in every interaction — in the classroom, on the field and in the community.

Why It Matters

The Importance of the Board of Prefects

The Board of Prefects holds significant importance in our school community — shaping leaders, serving peers, and building a culture of excellence and belonging.

Leadership Development

Serving on the Board of Prefects gives students real opportunities to develop communication, organisation and decision-making skills — leading assemblies, organising events and representing the student body in ways that prepare them for leadership throughout life.

Role Models

Prefects embody the values of JPIC — responsibility, integrity and respect. By demonstrating exemplary conduct and dedication to their duties, they inspire their peers to strive for excellence and contribute positively to the school community.

Student Advocacy

Prefects act as liaisons between students and school administration — providing valuable feedback on school policies and programmes, and ensuring that the student voice is heard and considered in decisions that affect the community.

Promoting Discipline and Order

Prefects play a vital role in maintaining a positive, respectful school environment. Working alongside staff, they help uphold the school's code of conduct, monitor behaviour and resolve conflicts — contributing to a safe and conducive learning atmosphere for all.

Peer Mentoring and Guidance

Prefects serve as mentors for younger students — helping new members of the community navigate school life, offering academic encouragement and providing a friendly, trusted resource for questions and concerns. This peer support fosters belonging and camaraderie across year groups.

Organising School Activities

From school celebrations and fundraisers to sports events and community service projects, prefects take an active role in organising the activities that make JPIC a vibrant and inclusive place to be. Their initiative shapes the culture and energy of the school.

Building School Spirit

Prefects are the guardians of school spirit — organising traditions, rallies and celebrations that bring students together, honour achievements and build a shared sense of pride in what it means to be part of the JPIC community.

Preparing for Citizenship

Service on the Board of Prefects develops civic responsibility. By taking on leadership roles, participating in community outreach and advocating for positive change, prefects grow into engaged, responsible citizens — committed to making a difference beyond the school gates.

Selection Process

Becoming a Prefect

03
Assessment
Applicants participate in a structured assessment that evaluates communication, problem-solving and teamwork skills in a leadership context.
04
Interview
Shortlisted candidates attend a formal interview with senior staff, where their suitability, character and readiness for leadership are assessed in depth.

Successful candidates are appointed to the Board of Prefects and formally invested at the annual Prefects' Investiture Ceremony — one of the most celebrated events in the JPIC calendar.
