Pastoral Formation

At JPIC, pastoral care is woven into everything we do — nurturing each student's wellbeing, character and sense of belonging within our Catholic school community.

Student Wellbeing

Caring for the Whole Person

Pastoral formation at JPIC goes beyond academic support. It is a commitment to the holistic development of every student — their emotional wellbeing, their relationships, their sense of identity and their place in the wider community.

Every student at JPIC belongs to a pastoral group guided by a dedicated form teacher. Regular pastoral periods, individual check-ins, and a network of support staff ensure that no student faces challenges alone. We believe that when students feel safe, known and cared for, they are free to learn and grow.

Our Principles

1
Every Student Known
Each student has a named pastoral guide who knows their story, their strengths and their needs.
2
Safe and Inclusive
Our community is built on mutual respect, dignity and belonging for every member.
3
Wellbeing-Centred
Academic progress and personal wellbeing are understood as inseparable at JPIC.
4
Family Partnership
We work closely with families, keeping them informed and involved in their child's pastoral journey.
Pastoral Care

How We Support Every Student

Six pillars of pastoral care that shape student life at JPIC.

Personal Guidance

Named form tutors build relationships with each student, providing consistent guidance, mentoring and a listening ear throughout their time at JPIC.

Wellbeing Support

Access to counselling, peer support and wellbeing programmes helps students navigate challenges and build resilience.

Anti-Bullying & Safety

A clear code of conduct, restorative practices and a culture of respect ensure every student feels safe and valued.

Academic Pastoral Bridge

Pastoral staff work closely with academic teachers to ensure personal challenges never become barriers to learning.

Parental Partnership

Regular communication with families — through reports, meetings and open channels — keeps parents informed and engaged.

Community & Belonging

Form activities, inter-house events and community projects strengthen bonds and create a shared sense of JPIC identity.

Our Process

Supporting Students Every Step

Our pastoral team works through a continuous cycle of listening, supporting and reviewing — ensuring every student receives the care they need, when they need it.

01 · Listen & Observe
Form tutors and teachers observe each student's wellbeing, picking up on changes in behaviour, mood or engagement before issues escalate.
02 · Individual Support
Where additional support is needed, students are connected to counselling, peer mentoring or specialist pastoral staff.
03 · Family Communication
Parents and guardians are kept informed and invited to partner with school staff in supporting their child.
04 · Review & Adjust
Support plans are regularly reviewed and adjusted to reflect each student's evolving needs and progress.
