Spiritual Formation

Faith is at the heart of life at JPIC. Our spiritual formation programme invites every student into a deeper understanding of themselves, their faith and their calling in the world.

Faith & Character

Forming Hearts and Minds

JPIC is a Catholic school under the Diocese of Chilaw, and spiritual formation is central to our identity. We believe that education is not only about academic achievement — it is about forming young people of faith, character and conscience who are prepared to serve others and make a positive difference in the world.

Through daily prayer, liturgical celebrations, retreats, service programmes and Religious Education, we invite every student into a rich spiritual life. We welcome students of all backgrounds and faiths, forming a community united by shared values of respect, compassion and truth.

Our Principles

1
Faith in Daily Life
Prayer, reflection and Gospel values are woven into the rhythm of each school day.
2
Liturgical Life
Mass, feast day celebrations and the liturgical calendar shape our community's spiritual identity.
3
Service & Justice
Students are invited to serve others through outreach programmes, reflecting the call to love our neighbour.
4
Open to All
While rooted in the Catholic tradition, our spiritual programme welcomes and respects students of all faith backgrounds.

How We Nurture Faith and Character

Six dimensions of spiritual life at JPIC.

Daily Prayer

Each school day begins and is marked by prayer, giving students space to centre themselves, reflect and connect with their faith.

Religious Education

A structured RE curriculum helps students explore faith, ethics, Scripture and the Catholic tradition in depth and with intellectual rigour.

Liturgy & Sacraments

School Masses, feast day celebrations and sacramental preparation mark the rhythm of the liturgical year and deepen community bonds.

Retreats & Reflection

Annual retreats and reflection days provide space for students to step back, encounter God and grow in self-awareness and faith.

Service & Outreach

Community service projects, charitable initiatives and social justice programmes put faith into action and build habits of generosity.

Chaplaincy Support

Our chaplaincy team is available to support students and staff spiritually — offering prayer, conversation and a compassionate presence.

Spiritual Growth

Growing in Faith and Virtue

Spiritual formation is a lifelong journey. At JPIC, we create the conditions for that journey to begin and deepen throughout every year of a student's time with us.

01 · Foundation Years
In Early Years and Primary, children are introduced to prayer, Scripture stories and the wonder of God's creation through age-appropriate, joyful experiences.
02 · Growing Years
In Lower Secondary, students deepen their understanding of faith, ethics and Catholic Social Teaching, building a personal relationship with their beliefs.
03 · Maturing Years
In Upper Secondary and Advanced, students engage with complex questions of faith, identity and vocation — discerning who they are and who they are called to become.
04 · Sending Forth
Graduating students leave JPIC equipped not just academically, but as people of faith, conscience and compassion — ready to serve the world.

At JPIC

A Community of Faith

Spiritual formation at JPIC is not a programme — it is a way of life, shared by students, staff and families together.

Chaplaincy Team

Our chaplaincy team accompanies the JPIC community in prayer, celebration and service — providing spiritual support for students and staff throughout the year.

Diocesan Connection

As part of the Diocese of Chilaw, JPIC is connected to a wider Catholic community — participating in diocesan events, youth programmes and celebrations.

Family & Parish Links

We encourage strong links between school, home and parish — supporting families in nurturing the faith lives of their children beyond the school gates.
